In previous years, due to a lack of proper facilities, the Hanna Thomas hospital on Barbuda have struggled to store a deceased person. Immediate transportation to Antigua was necessary which is not always easy or available.

The Barbuda Ocean Club has listened to the needs of the Barbuda Council Health department to provide a solution to a death occurring on the island and has donated a six body refrigerator mortuary. The ‘clinic in a can’ is a hybrid power system including a... diesel generator and solar system.

A body can now be placed in a proper facility that is safe until arrangements have been made to transport the body to Antigua for autopsy and until funeral arrangements have been made.

We are happy that we have been able to provide assistance in this matter and would like to continue to support the Health department restore after the destruction from Hurricane Irma. This solution can provide some dignity to those recently deceased and assist families to grieve with out worrying about immediate transportation.

MEET THE TEAM

🧽 Housekeeping 🧹

Our housekeeping team at the Barbuda Ocean Club is a crucial part of the smooth function of our organization. On the team are Dorciah, Nandi, Josea, Robert, Myra, Cerene, Janice and Jacke.

...

There are six Safari tents that the team are responsible for cleaning everyday including the Chiringuita (central bar / pool area) the restrooms and back of house areas.

We have had training programs with them to help deliver 1st class service for our guests.

If it wasn’t for these girls (and guy!) how would we function?!

With their hard work and dedication to details, we can deliver a unique and world-class experience for members and guests of the Barbuda Ocean Club.

MEET THE TEAM

🌴Landscaping 🌴

Our landscaping team is a local team led by Devon Christian, known on the island as 'Yellowman'. They have the knowledge of Barbuda's flora and fauna which is why their expertise is needed to make the property look natural and neat.

...

The Barbuda Ocean Club development spans a large area and our landscaping team is responsible for maintaining all areas including the beach, guest tents, tennis courts and boathouse areas plus Coco Point itself.

Indigenous shrubbery that is found on our plot and maintained by the team are our seas grape, cocoplum trees and Lignum Vitae. We try to highlight these local plants and help them thrive with water and trimming them back when needed.

On the team are; Leon Jeffrey, Deon Richards, Malcolm Cephas, Ivan Joseph, Godffrey Dyett, Julia Jeffrey, Tyrone Webber, Carlon Harris, David Browne, Oriel Punter and Devon Christian.

Even though the beaches are the main attraction at the Barbuda Ocean Club, there is something very special about our farm.

Knolly and David are on site today and are a part of a team of five that keep the farm going 7 days a week. Kemwyn, O'Brien and Rodney are the others on the team.

The farm is only a year old but it already has over 30 varieties of herbs, vegetables and fruit trees growing. Here are some of the items we have here:

...

Carrots Small Peppers Sweet Potato Butternut Beetroot Corn Red and Green Spinach

Trees: Breadfruit Avocado Custard Apple Mango Sour Sop Banana Plantain Papaya

Herb Garden: Bay Leaf Onion Garlic chive Onion chive Thyme Rosemary Mint Lemon Grass Sage

Just to name a few! Throughout these vegetables are some protected Lignum Vitae tree which grows on Barbuda and provides some shade to certain areas.

On some evenings, we invite guests into the farm for a tour and sample the home grown items with a tasting board of all the fresh produce reaped by the farm team.

100% organic! We are proud of our farmers and our farm!

Support for the court!

There was a great turnout for yesterday’s fundraising bike event: Catie from the Barbuda Ocean Club joined in the fun at the Barbuda Council Sport Department’s "Bring a Bike" racing competition yesterday.

The race was exciting to watch and was a fun activity for Barbuda residents (adults, teens and children) who were participants and spectators.

...

Proceeds for the bike race went towards restoring the basketball complex in Codrington. The Barbuda Ocean Club donated cold, bottled water for everyone involved in the event.

It was great fun to see the smiles and competition at this active event. Congratulations to the winners!

The new Barbuda community water tank is currently under construction. Through funding from Barbuda Ocean Club and assistance from Roberts Construction, the base is being poured and the crew will be on island in December to assemble the tank. The water storage capacity will increase from 2,400 gallons to 100,000 gallons, allowing for more consistent water service for all of Barbuda.
