With over 1.2 million residents and an annual inflow of thousands of tourists, Sofia is the capital and the biggest city in Bulgaria. It combines both ancient history and the contemporary look of a modern European destination. Yet, there are places which life seems to just pass by - such as the underpasses. A big part of them are depressing with their monofunctionality, bad maintenance and lack of security. A youth initiative named "POdLEZNO" was created with the desire to experiment in the urban environment by offering new cultural interpretations of these underground public spaces. Light, art, live music, dance, interactive installations and different events will turn the underpasses into cozy, lively and safe multifunctional places for both the tourists and local population. Our goals are to promote the use of the underpasses, making them safer and more accessible, which in its turn would make the citizens more involved in the overall process of change.
