About CTSOE
CTSOE is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality eye care services to underserved children in Burundi. Our organization is the only one that offers this service to children in the country. Childhood blindness is a significant health issue in low-income countries, particularly in Burundi, where access to medical care and treatment is limited.Children with blindness in Burundi have a lower life expectancy than sighted children due to an increased risk of other health problems and limited access to medical care. Children with visual impairments in Burundi may also face challenges such as limited access to education, discrimination, and social isolation. Our mission is to improve access to medical care and support for children with blindness, which is crucial for restoring sight, saving lives, and enhancing overall quality of life. CTSOE provides vision screening, medical, and surgical treatment, as well as efforts to educate and improve the social and economic factors that contribute to childhood blindness. Each year, CTSOE screens and treats several thousand children by providing medication and eyeglasses. However, we also perform vision restoration surgery to an average of 500 children annually. Our long-term goal is to achieve financial sustainability by finding a mechanism for cross-subsidization by adults who can pay to support these children. Until then, CTSOE will continue to rely on the generosity of our partners.Join us in the fight to combat childhood blindness and transform lives in Burundi.
