Description

Run by the Bermuda Hospitals Board, the Bermuda Blood Donor Centre is always in need of blood and new donors! Clinics are held at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH) Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. It takes less than half an hour to give blood and make a vital difference in someone else’s life.

The blood donor service at KEMH was founded in 1955 by the hospital’s pathologist, Dr Ronald E Shaw. At that time, blood donations were handled by six volunteer Red Cross nurses and the KEMH Emergency Department. On 2 June 1965, the Bermuda Red Cross Blood Donor Centre was formally opened by the Bermuda Red Cross and Bermuda Hospitals Board in its own area in KEMH. It moved in 1990 to its present location on the first floor of the hospital. Today, the Blood Donor Centre is operated by hospital staff.
