Description

Harry Luke Johnson (1914-1972) was a police officer and amateur artist who was very interested in preserving Saba's heritage. He began Saba's first museum in 1970.

The current museum opened in 1977 housed in 160 year old sea captain's cottage.

The building, a Saban cottage built circa 1840 by former owner Captain Josiah Peterson, changed hands over the years having both Saban and American owners before being deeded over to become the museum building and grounds in the mid 1970's.

With the exception of necessary restoration projects the building is largely unchanged and is a classic example of traditional Saban architecture with beautiful wood and stone work.

Housed in the museum is a fantastic collection of furniture and household items depicting the historic Saban way of life. Along with artifacts found through local archaeological excavations.

The museum is set in a lush landscaped park which includes a children's play area, a gazebo and a variety of tropical vegetation.

The Harry L Johnson Museum and Park is a must visit for residences and visiting guest alike.
