Why a hotel now on Sint Eustatius?

Statia's unique heritage, her lovely town and landscape, excellent diving and the beautiful terrestrial flora and fauna offer the ideal atmosphere for people who want to avoid mass tourism and enjoy Statia's genuine unspoilt beauty.

Back in the 1970's the particular Bay area, where the Orange Bay Hotel will open its doors, was already appointed as a touristic development area. The recently approved spatial zoning plan also facilitates the development of a hotel.

The recent “Strategic Development Plan of Sint Eustatius” states repeatedly that one of the main economical pillars for the island's development is tourism. It reads, “A number of 250-300 hotel rooms in total is considered to be a minimum to be able to effectively promote the Island on the market.” And, “Lower Town will be further developed as a touristic area, creating opportunities for the development of small-scale, 30 – 70 room hotels.” “With tourism comes the demand for other amenities such as shops and restaurants.” And it will create great opportunities for more jobs and education.

The Orange Bay Hotel will be of small scale and it will be the first hotel on Statia operating a restaurant with opening hours from 7 am to 10 pm, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Philosophy: focus on prosperity and the benefits for Statia

We will recruit staff locally as far as available on the market. The amount of hospitality jobs will cover about 20% of what is, in total, demanded in the Strategic Development Plan.
The initiators want to put themselves into the service of the local community, next to the economic management of hotel operations.
The hotel will enable young people on Statia to acquire a sound education. We see the social responsibility not only to the preservation of the natural environment from an ecological perspective, but also in the development of skills that lead to greater prosperity and perspective. People from Statia will be given the opportunity to develop and qualify for the hotel business.
