" Ichingo Lodge: Guest Safety of Little Concern
My wife & I booked a 7 day holiday at Ichingo Lodge, part of the Mantis Group. The partially enclosed view deck outside our Unit had portion of the balustrade removed (see photograph). That evening my wife fell through the gap onto the rocks below. Her fall was arrested by bushes which prevented potentially fatal fall into the river. Staff members responded and assisted me in retrieving my wife. She was stabilised, sedated and spent the evening in considerable pain before being transported to the mainland the following morning when her injuries were xrayed in hospital & assessed. She spent 4 days being carried around the Lodge in a wheelchair before we finally felt it preferable to terminate our holiday & return home with my wife in a wheelchair. An examination by orthopaedic specialist revealed severe bruising to the lower limbs, a fractured foot and shock. Ichingo Lodge insist arriving guests sign a Waiver and Indemnity which attempts to absolve the Lodge from all responsibility relating to a visit. Guests should be given advance warning of this requirement as they may wish to evaluate the potential implications of waiving their Rights. Harry Fuller "
