" We didn't stay at Pause but stopped by every morning as Oscar, Damien and Remi let us feed the cats. They are lovely people and welcomed us with kindness from the beginning! If you are looking for a rustic cultural experience and love cats and animals in general this is the place for you! Take a minute and give back while you are on vacation. Jenn and I plan to stay in touch and help out with the cats any way we can. We are now back in drizzly cold Spokane Washington. And though it feels good to be home part of my heart remains at Pause and Caye Caulker. Will write soon friends. Much Love. 🐾❤️🤗 "

" Quirky place with great staff. The dock off the back of the hostel and the free kayaks were definitely a favourite. Being that it is an animal shelter, there is an occasional smell outside but other than that it was pretty good. One of the staff members even taught us how to open coconuts with a machete. Great value for a great experience on Caye Caulker. "

" The place has a great view, and a cool bridge to hang out on and watch the sunset. The kitchen is nice, and the dorm room big. BUT It STINKS of cat piss, everywhere, all the time, and since there's sand every where, it's pretty much one big cat-toilet, with cat poo, and urine everywhere. I found it directly disgusting, and it's a shame, because the place has lots of potential otherwise. I know it's a cat sanctuary, but running a hostel the same place doesn't work. - and then the hostel is located not too far from the generator providing electricity for the island, so there's a constant humn/noise from that. " ALSO Pause Hostel. Dorms, private cabanas, and it's own private beach with free kayaks. The best hostel on the island given the price of 12.50USD per dorm bed. Really good vibes, a fireplace, a dock with a view of the sunset. Ended up staying for 2 weeks instead of 2 days! "

" I stayed here for a couple of weeks in April and May 2016 and had a great time. This place is a little piece of paradise! You can watch the most beautiful sunsets from the dock, use the Kayaks (for free) to look for the manatees and dolphins who swim not far from here, go swimming yourself, just lay in one of the hammocks all day doing nothing or you can spend some time with the lovely animals around, to name only some examples. The rooms and showers are clean, plus, there is a little kitchen everyone can use, as well as a grill. Madi, the owner, is a very friendly and sweet woman and always concerned about the well-being of her guests. She will provide you with any information you need about Caye Caulker or Belize.
You should be ok with animals, though, as the sanctuary takes care of about 90 cats, four dogs and a duck. "
