" Major feedback items.
1. From the moment we arrived, we noticed we were not receiving the service or positive attitude we expected by the online reviews. The "check in process" was extremely disorganized. We had to stay in the main hut with no information. The day trippers were all taken care of first and were clearly the priority. This was surprising since they paid much less than the guests (and we had the most expensive room). All we were told is check in is at 3. But we would have to check in way before that and won't be allowed in the room. Then a menu shows up to take our lunch order. 2.5 hours later, lunch was ready. (nobody told us lunch orders were taken that far in advance). When the staff, told us lunch was ready, all the great beach front tables were full and they sat us behind the bar near the kitchen with no view or breeze. We were told the table is very special. To us, it was surprising to pay $1000 USD for 2 nights and then be sat in a terrible location. After that, we quietly waited until 3 for our room to be ready, We saw it was ready but nobody came to tell us. I asked the main gentleman (English speaker) about it multiple times and he always had a poor attitude. At 3:00, we took it upon ourselves to get out own bag (so we could change into swim suits) and we sat on the chairs in front of the room but we did not go in. The main gentlemen seemed more interested in getting paid by the day guests than caring about us. At 4:15, we asked him again about the room. He snarked that he assumed we already went in. He then nicely described the room.
2. We asked for a key to the door and never got one. After dinner on day 1, we arrived to the room and it was locked. Without a key, we could not get in. We had to walk into the kitchen to find a staff member who could help us.
3. The room had significant issues and was in need of serious repair. There were large holes in the mosquito net (which was too small for the bed), there were cockroaches on multiple occasions, we always had to ask for towels (both blue beach ones and white ones),
4. Food. I informed via email that my wife is vegetarian on two occasions and was told she would be taken care of. Unfortunately, that was completely false. She ate the same boiled vegetables for 5 meals (pasta or rice was the only variation). This was extremely disappointing. On one meal, she just had two orders of French fries. For me, a carnivore, I ordered all over the menu (chicken, steak, lobster), and found the flavors and sides to be repetitive.
5. On the last day, during check out, again, nobody gave us information. Our bags almost did not make it on the boat, the main gentleman either ignored us or gave us a poor attitude, and the "going through receipts" process seemed ridiculous. I am not confident my bill was correct but I paid it anyway since we already got the sense we were not welcome.
6. Mr. Pierre (I think the owner) and the main female leader both asked us what we thought about the food, and we mentioned the issues with my wife being a vegetarian and they shrugged their shoulders. We felt not welcome.
7. Conveniently, our credit card # was stolen and was used for fraud at the exact time we were at this facility with no cell service.... hmmm "

" Good points:
- perfect location
- amazing sunsets
- charming staff
- Pierre and his Daughter Flo are lovely and could not do enough for us
Bad points
- very shabby, (not shabby-sheek): all of the facilities are old and tired
- poor plumbing: no hot water (solar power would be cheap and easy to install), toilets do not take lop paper
- sheets, towels and pillows are all stained, smell and are poor quality
- kayaks, snorkelling equipment etc all need replacing
- food gets repetitive and both our children had food poisoning
Overall we had a lovely few days and felt very looked after. Sunsets amazing, cocktails lovely, service super friendly, food is variable but mostly good. We did some great trips: snorkelling, swam in the lagoon at night to see the illuminescent (sp.) / Phosphorescent plankton around our bodies; kayaked around the island; had dinner on a candlelit platform over the sea.

" Wonderful hotel. There are a not many units maybe 5-10. The staff is very nice and the food is good. The chef was very accommodating of my wife's being a vegetarian. You pay for alcohol but the food is included. There are some nice activities available. We went snorkeling and enjoyed seeing the coral reefs as well as a plane Pablo Escobar sunk for some mysterious reason. Mostly it is a place to relax and escape. If you are looking for the resort experience this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a slow living hotel in the middle of nowhere with a nice staff this is a great choice. Note that it is a 45 minute boat ride from Cartagenia. "
