" Not worth it.
Yes it is a decent hotel but it is not what it wants to be. It actually felt like a trap to be there.
We had only enough hot water for one shower (so only one person) and had to use the spa steam room (at an extra cost of $27 pp) to get warm. The area is pretty cold so it is not that great to miss the hot water and a good heating (the hotel provides a small and insufficient poket heater).
In this area, you will get wet if you go hiking (cloud forest) but at Savegre hotel, you won't get warm nor be able to dry your gears overnight.
I could add that except the waterfalls trail, the trails maintained by the hotels are boring with no view and limited wildlife.
The food tastes really average (tastes like homemade ready meal or a work canteen) and is quite expensive. Once you are at the hotel you are kinda trapped and have to pay for the meals there unless you want to drive mountain roads several times a day.
The bird watching is quite expensive ($45 pp) and yes you will see a Quetzal but that will be by the main valley road and in the sheer company of a couple (if not 3 or 4) vans of tourists.
In my opinion there is so much better to do in Costa Rica!
Head to Tortugero or the Osa peninsula and pass quickly through San Gerardo de Dota. "

" Amazing hummingbirds visit the property and specifically the bird feeder. The trails are well marked and gorgeous. We saw at a half dozen types of mushrooms! "

" Wow! What a beautiful place. The cabins are adorable - down to the fine detail in the bathrooms, complete with candles and a box of matches! The chefs created wonderful food every day - the trout soup was to die for! Birding in this place is amazing. So many birds to see and hear - especially the Resplendant Quetzal. The staff were very helpful and super-friendly. Highly recommended. "
