" Great location and beautiful grounds. The room was very clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The internet was not so good while I was there, but on my last day they seem to have fix it after input from several guests. I would definitely stay here again. "

" When we checked into our room at Velero Beach Resort, the penthouse (that was all they had at booking, we did not want the Penthouse), number 531, in the afternoon of June 6th, the room was very hot (seemed like 85+ degrees), and we could not stay in it. Although we had reservations, management had not thought to turn on the air conditioning in advance to try to cool the room down. We immediately alerted hotel management about the issue and they told us that the room would eventually cool down. We went out and had dinner at Velero Beach Resort, I ordered the fish that they said was fresh (Mahi Mahi) the presentation was good but when I put my fork in it, it was not cooked and still raw on the inside. The waiter told me that is how the fish is suppose to be cooked. I order Mahi fish a lot and have never had raw fish in the middle as the way Valero cooked it. I did not eat it and of course they did not take anything off the bill. After we returned to the room it had still not cooled down and was very hot and uncomfortable. After several complaints and a few hours passed, we were finally moved to an adjoining smaller room ( 1 bed for 3 people) that I understand was less expensive. We (my wife, myself and our seven-year-old son), had experienced enough of Velero by this time, which misrepresented itself as a five star resort, and decided to find a new hotel in the morning.
I went back in the room in the morning and it still was not cool. When I spoke to the manager as we were checking out, he said that none of the hotels in the Domincan Republic offered air conditioning similar to the United States that could cool to 70 to 72 degrees. He was incorrect as our new hotel, was quite comfortable and actually we got cold.
Velero Resort claims to have done us a favor by not holding us to a three day minimum charge, but they furnished a totally unsatisfactory room that totally ruined that day of our vacation. As I said earlier, the room never did get cool and I don't see how anybody can stand it, particularly during June in the Dominican Republic.
The room was booked by our host and friend in the area named Callan Sinclair. His brother owns a cigar factory in the area and they host many visitors and send many people to the Velero Breach Resort. Callan later informed me that due to the circumstances as well as his relationship to the hotel, Velero had decided to charge us for the smaller room. The total price for the smaller room would be $125 and we would receive a credit from Velero for $48 in addition to the days that we did not stay. However, when I received our statement there was no credit for $48. I called the hotel and spoke to the manager, who informed me that they would not be issuing a $48 credit
We lost a precious vacation day dealing with a hot room and Valero should refund us the $48 under the circumstances. We could not stay in the larger room and they should instead charge us for the smaller room for one night.
I have a video of the sound of the AC which was very loud and would be happy to send to anyone who would like to see it. I definitely would not say this resort is a 5 star beach resort at all! If you want a 5 star resort in Dominican Rep got to Gansevoort. I would say Valero Beach Resort is a low 3 star at best. "

" Without a doubt one of our favorite hotel stay during our time in Dominican Republic! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the general manager Rusbel Acosta. With all respect for the general manager who does a great job there; a true sample of excellent hospitality. It was our one year anniversary, we were also upgraded to their deluxe room with an impeccable view.
The hotel environment was very clean, staffs was friendly and attentive to all our needs. Velero hotel also have an ocean front dining area, the food and restaurant staff was superb!
There was 24hr security staff on every corner of the hotel.
My husband and I will definitely be revisiting Dominican Republic and Velero Beach Resort is were we'll be staying. "
