Sophrology is accessible to everyone, adapted to every type of physical condition and every ages!
I am Elise Gaudechoux and I am student in sophrology in my last year. I wish to share this efficient technique in Barcelona where I live. I give group session in French and English. I am also doing private one to one session for therapeutic purpose.
Here you can find more element about sophrology which is more developed in French speaking countries :
History of Sophrology
Alfonso Caycedo created Sophrology as a mix of both Western (he was a neuropsychiatric) and Eastern medical practice (healing techniques from Japanese Zen, Yoga and meditation). Sophrology comes from the Greek words “Sos” (harmony), “Phren” (consciousness) and “Logos” (study/science) and literally means “The Study of Consciousness in Harmony”.
Sophrology can help for different goals :
• Therapeutic purposes
The one to one sessions are of a more “therapeutic” focus. In this case specific exercises can be proposed to help with the following issues:
• Sleep problems
• Stress and anxiety related disorders
• Difficulties to lose or gain weight
• Migraines and recurring headaches
• Addictions
• Phobia
• Digestives problems
• Stress related skin problems
• Physical pain
• Depression
Sophrology is used in the field of stress management. It’s recognized to be a strong stress reducer and increase healthy performance.
• Personal development and mental preparation
Sophrology helps develop self-confidence, self-esteem and assertiveness. By going within it helps identify positive inner resources and strengths. Sophrology is a strong support to the development of a personal or professional project.
By helping managing the stress and calming down the mind it improves concentration and your ability to adapt to change. The reconnection with the inner self allows the person to develop interpersonal and communication skills, improve her ability to find solutions and make decisions.
• Medical Field
Sophrology is applied is in the medical field. Sophrologists are currently practicing in French Hospitals to support the work of doctors; most commonly the exercises are used to manage pain during a patient’s recovery. It helps the patient to keep a positive mind set which is fundamental when people fight serious sickness. Sophrology techniques help prepare patients for an operation by calming down the neuro-vegetative system, heartbeat, blood tension and the breath.
• Sports
Sophrology is also used in competitive sports to program the brain to achieve specific performance through visualisation techniques. Everything is done in a Sophro-liminal state: the state between being awake and asleep where the conscience and brain can be re-modelled.
With the experience and the control of certain exercises and certain instructions, athletes will be able to work on certain aspects more finely, more exactly. For example, they can better use techniques of guided imagery and thus improve their technical capacities.
Sophrology: Two ways of practising
• Group session
The aim is to cover Sophrology techniques to improve general wellbeing.
The duration depends on the size of the group (one hour generally) with a presentation of the aim and objectives of the session, one-guided exercises and a conclusion with exchanges about the participants’ experiences. The exercises are done standing up or sitting down. The first aim of group session is to relax the participant and helps them facing an active daily life. Group session will also naturally increase self-confidence and develop a more positive brain setting.
• One-to-one session
The aim of a one to one session is to be close to your situation and needs.
The duration is one hour and half with the following step:
• Consultation and identification of the objective
• One specific exercise linked to identification of your objective
• Exchange about your experience.
• I give advice and material to practice between two sessions
