Description

The College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences (CMNHS) was formed with the merger of Fiji School of Medicine and the Fiji School of Nursing. The CMNHS comes under the Fiji National University.

As the premier medical institutions in the South Pacific, both FSM and FSN have been educating Health Care Professionals since their establishment in 1885 and 1893 respectively.

The Schools have produced many motivated and skilled health care professionals who are now serving in key positions in the South Pacific and overseas.

The schools provide training in health science disciplines including medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiography, laboratory technology, public health, dietetics and environmental health.

A team of researchers from James Cook University have been awarded a two year grant from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to study patterns of infectious disease spread and strengthen health systems responses to communicable diseases in our region.

The team of researchers are working in partnership with five Pacific countries, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Timor L’este and eastern Indonesia.

FNU and MOHMS have agreed to be a partner in... this collaboration within the ‘capacity strengthening through research training’ theme of the program of work.

A workshop is currently being held at College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences with participants from FNU and Ministry of Health & Medical Services.

The capacity building programme consists of 3 blocks of teaching and a workplace implementation research part-time project.
