We stayed at De Vos for 7 nights and had a wonderful time. A highlight was having a small intimate place where about 5 couples came and went during our time there. Another highlight was having meals cooked daily by an experienced chef Napoloni. The meals were very generous in size, delicious and moderately priced. We had the Mango room directly upstairs above the main reception/living area. This worked well for us, was cleaned everyday: I did think that if there had been a noisy lot of people staying who wanted to party late into the night, then it would not have been a good option to be in. However, everyone was quiet and so not a problem.

De Vos, in my opinion is not really suited for children: it is more a couples place. There is a lovely large pool and the beach is a few metres away. I wasn't prepared for a coral beach, despite it being on the "coral Coast"! So the swimming area, wasn't that great out front due to the coral and walking on the sand was gritty. De Vos provided a selection of beach shoes, but if I went again, I would take my own. We walked up the beach to Naviti Resort, which has a cultural show on some evenings.

In arranging this as our Fiji holiday, prior to leaving for Fiji, I felt frustrated by the low level of communication from de Vos. I was trying to pre-plan the week with activities and the reply to my email request for what was on offer was "there are a lot of things". Not specific enough for me! This continued on even when we were staying there-I approached Julie a couple of times asking her for activities. She showed me some brochures, but didn't show a lot of enthusiasm of help with telling me about what to do. I talked to her about this on our final night there and encouraged her to actively promote activities for the guests.

One evening De Vos put on a lovo-a huge feed and we all sampled the karva. I appreciated that they did this-bringing abit of Fijian culture to us.

Transport: we took the bus from Nadi airport to Maui Bay for about FJ $8 each and was dropped off on to the side of the road. Please note there is NO sign advertising de Vos: without the help of a local, we would not have found the place. Failing that, we would have had to phone de Vos for further instructions. So, when you ask for directions from de Vos, ask very specifically. It would be great if they could email through a map of where the place is to make it clear. If you require transport to places, simply stand on the side of the road and flag down a bus/car which go along the road every half hour. We did that, then after a couple of days decided to bus back to Nadi and hire a car from the airport, which worked really well in us exploring the place. If you hate cities, don't go o Suva. Sigatoka and Nadi, we enjoyed visiting. The Fijians are so friendly and that was a highlight too for us.

All in all, an enjoyable holiday. If the staff of de Vos showed abit more initiative in helping us with touristy things, then it would have been near perfect. A perfect place to chill, relax, read books, swim if that's what you like doing. Oh, and really really nice surrounds-not grotty at all-lush and green, coconut palms and very tidy. The crashing of the waves out on the coral reef was soothing at night too!

I would go again. "
