" Wonderful Lakeland pub. Great real ale and the best steak pie anywhere. Lovely new extension with roaring fire tastefully decorated. You can't go wrong here. "

" My family and I stumbled upon The Black Labrador whilst returning from a short stay in the Lake district and we are so glad that we did. We only stopped there to get a light lunch and a drink to see us the rest of the journey home but once our slabs of steak, ale and stilton pies arrived all I could think about was where I was going to sleep after eating it! None of this gravy filled dish with a puff pastry lid, this was built like the stone walls that the area is famous for. Hands down the best pie I've ever had and almost too much to handle. Massive portions, friendly staff, fairly priced and the cleanest toilets that I've seen in a long while. "

" Had a really lovely meal tonight - excellent menu and the food we ordered was really great. Best pub food we've had. Beer very good too. Nice range of seating. A lot of folk bring their dogs who are also welcome. We will be back quite soon as a very good place for a very good meal. "

" First ate here in 2012, when I was house hunting. Top class food, top class service with a smile. Ian, the chef, served fantastic food in hugely generous quantities. It was the deciding factor to move to the area. The pub has changed over the years; the upstairs function room was rebuilt in 2013 and turned into an amazing dining area with veranda. After the floods in 2015, the downstairs bar and dining area has been revamped. Originally named The Punchbowl, it has since renamed itself The Black Labrador, and hired a new Chef since Ian moved on. Every change has taken the pub forwards, moving with the times but never forgetting or foregoing it's roots. A fantastic, genuine local pub, with friendly staff, friendly locals. The food is first rate, reasonably priced, and generous portions. The staff are friendly, polite, and attentive. A credit to Chris and Louise. 11/10 from me! (and the Tempura Prawns are heavenly!) "

" Nice food, friendly atmosphere and welcoming locals. Good menu at a reasonable price. Would have preferred a seat out of the bar though. "
