This place looks the part... but looks can be deceiving.
Last time I visited Southwold this was closed for refurbishment so was looking forward to checking it out, post makeover.
Visited as a group on saturday hoping to spend the evening there. Strong focus on cocktails so ordered a round of 6 to get started. Weirdly they were not made by the barman but in the kitchen away from view. When they arrived 5 out of 6 were very watery with no depth. Didn't say anything but the staff didn't ask why we hadn't finished our drinks before ordering another round of the same. Again the barman didn't make the drinks, the order went to the kitchen. 10 minutes later it was Groundhog Day again. This time we got the attention of staff the barman and explained the situation. He didn't taste the drink, he just shrugged his shoulders, acknowledged what we said (agreeing that the cocktails are watery) and said that they were made according to the recipe in the kitchen.
No apologies, no other drinks offered, no empathy.
We took our custom to the Lord Nelson and had a brilliant evening.
If an establishment wants to focus on cocktails and charge an average of £10 per drink they need to do and offer a lot more than what this place is doing. Good looking place but beauty is very much only skin deep in the case of the Swan. "

" The staff are fabulous and every stay here is first class. Nothing is ever to much trouble. Would highly recommend a visit. The renovation is taking place from 3rd January 2017 until June 2017. Can't wait to come back once completed. "

" Had a great meal at the bar, as I have done before. Food and drinks were great, yet it would always take a bit of extra effort to find a member of staff to help with an order or even pay. Other guests seemed to find this frustrating as they'd just left a large amount of cash on their table after waiting 20 minutes for a waiter/barman to pay their bill. Again, great food, but don't be in a rush to get anywhere else as it could take longer than expected. "
