" Bellaghy Bawn is a 17th Century Plantation house or castle in Bellaghy, Northern Ireland. The Bawn was taken into state care in 1994 and was converted into a high quality literary and historical visitor attraction, telling the story of the Plantation of Ulster, the history of Bellaghy, the local natural environment and the life and work of Nobel Poet Seamus Heaney.

Over the years the Bawn has suffered greatly from under-resourcing from local and national government and opens only on a Sunday afternoon to the public. As well as this, the Bawn was stripped of its Seamus Heaney collection which has been moved to a new centre in his name nearby.

The bawn can be opened on request and is well worth a visit when you are in the area. It retains an original film narrated by Seamus Heaney in 1996 which is a must see for any fan of the great poet. Three stars. Five if it opens permanently to the public. "
