He quoted me £50 on the phone, but his website only said £45...so we booked on the website. That evening he cancelled our reservation saying he *suddenly* did't have any more cars. Fortunately D&N MacKenzie (the other car rental on Islay) saved us the next day with a same-day rental that she delivered FOR FREE for a cheaper base rate of £41. Avoid Islay Car Hire at all costs. "

" We rented a car on Islay for 3 weeks with Scott. His service was great. He replied to our emails often within minutes, waited at the airport for my friend and came to the airport another day for the 2nd driver's signature even though it was a bank holiday. This extra service did not seem possible with another car rental. We got a much bigger car than we actually booked, which we liked. The car was clean and everything functioned well. To extend the car that wasn't a problem at all and seemed to be very uncomplicated. We would have expected though a slight price reduction for our long-term rental of 3 full weeks. Nevertheless we could highly recommend Scott's service and reliability. "

" One of the rudest people I have spoken to. I called to enquire about car hire for the following day and was called back by a very grumpy and rude man who informed me that I had to decide then (after being quoted a price double what I was expecting) whether I wanted the car rather than being able to hire it at the airport, which is contrary to advice online which states that while it is advisable to reserve a car, it is possible to arrange it on arrival at the airport. I was then asked where I was staying, to which I replied that my boyfriend and I were planning to sleep in the car. To which the man said 'Well you're not getting a car then. Goodbye' and hung up without me having a chance to say anything further. It does not say anywhere in the terms and conditions that sleeping in the cars is not allowed, and I don't see why it would be a problem, it's not like it's going to cause any damage, but even if it's not allowed, I could have been given a chance to say that in that case we would find alternative accommodation, rather than having the phone put down on me.
Also (at weekends at the moment anyway) the cars are only available to collect and drop off from/at the airport at times that coincide with the flights, and you are forced to pay for two days' hire even if you only want one.
Due to being refused a car and hung up on my boyfriend and I were unable to go ahead with our trip, and if we ever do get to go certainly won't be hiring from this company. "
