As part of Thurso High School's visit with us yesterday, they were asked to look at David Barogill Keith's caricatures and compare them to other WW1 sources, before using them as inspiration to create their own drawings. ✏️ Take a look at the wonderful caricatures they did!!

I would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to the 2nd Wick Brownies for a brilliant evening and my first ever Brownie badge. The group made a visit to Nucleus yesterday evening to learn about the building, what we do as an archive and to take a look at some of the documents we hold in the Caithness archive as part of the research they have to do to gain their Local History Badge. With magnifying glass in hand the group examined amongst other more recent documents from the Victorian ...era and WWII our oldest document a Feu Charter from 1469 written on parchment and telling us of the transfer of

The lands of half of Reiss and Akirgill [Ackergill] from Alexander of Sutherland of Duffus and of the fourth part of the earldom of Caithness to James Brisbane of Weke [Wick] P790.

A very interesting and super few hours spent with a great group of Brownies and their Owls.

Thank you

For those of you looking forward to the first of the live shows of Britain's Got Talent tonight, we have a historical version to share with you. 👏 During Warship Week in 1942, this letter was sent to the Home Guard asking for any talented men who wanted to take part in a local concert, and advising them to note down their particular aptitude. Here are a couple of short, inspirational poems originally taken from newspaper cuttings. We hope you enjoy them and put some of their advice into practice 🙂 (P82)

As tourist season is starting soon, we thought we'd share this booklet 'An illustrated guide to Wick Caithness' which was published by Wick Town Council c.1980. (P898/10/13) Are there any other things you would recommend to tourists to do and see around Wick nowadays?
