Science is for everyone. Scientific Communication is at the heart of our work. Back in 2021 during our second lockdown as part of my work I started a series of social media posts to bring wildlife right into everyone's home. Guernsey is a beautiful and complex little island with an astonishing variety of unique wildlife both on land and in the sea and I wanted to help connect people to this. I watched my local community interact with my posts and develop an increasing fascination in natural world surrounding them.Once life returned to normal I expected interest to wan, but instead I saw my local community develop an increasing fascination with our natural world surrounding them. Like many people, my workload increased and left little time for engaging scientific communication (SciComm).So, I set up the Guernsey Scientist to continue sharing weird, wonderful, wildlife related facts and information with the goal of taking the mystery out of science and replacing it with wonder."In recent years I've seen people lacking confidence about science, being scared of getting things wrong. We learn the most when we get it wrong. I want to give people their confidence back! So, as the Guernsey Scientist, I'm taking the mystery of out science and replacing it with wonder. I love learning and in fact, I find we often learn the most when we get things wrong. * Educate - Why do animals do that? Education can be fun and practical. Let's change the conversation, be curious about our world and want to understand the why of things.
