Calorie counting can be obsessive and detrimental to your nutritional intake. Would you choose coke zero over coconut water to save calories? By eating the right ingredient at the right time of day you can avoid the pre-meal math. Eating too little calories will make you lose predominately lean muscle mass not fat.

Trans fats raise the bad cholesterol and lower the good cholesterol, cause abdominal obesity, inflammation and insulin resistance. I often get asked ‘which are the bad fats?’ Trans fats are un-natural and generally hated in nutritional literature, even a country deemed as pretty healthy such as New Zealand consume on average 7% more Trans fat per day than what is recommended. Imagine the statistics for a self confessed sweet tooth nation such as Gibraltar.

When talking to my clients about why they might of failed with their weight goals in the past they often tell me that they failed to be perfect one day and then just gave up on the hard work of a diet. This is a good indicator that you are attempting an unsustainable lifestyle for yourself, it doesn't have to go from 0 to 100, if you are not perfect it doesn't mean you have failed. Be realistic and remember it is not mentally healthy to expect perfection...

This is a great tip to prevent waste in the home. 2014 statistics demonstrated that over 1/4 of food produced for human consumption is wasted with main culprits unsurprisingly including the US and European countries such as the UK. Buying fresh produce little and often can help reduce this.

Being strict with sleep is a great place to start when improving your health. You can have the best diet in the world and train everyday but without getting enough sleep you wont enjoy the best results. Hormones are released when you are asleep which are essential to growth and development, including that of your muscles

There is not one food in the entire world that can provide all the nutrients a person needs.. except breast milk. Breast milk has the perfect combination of proteins, fats, vitamins, and carbohydrates. Nature is definitely a very interesting thing.

This is one of the biggest mistakes I have come across in my clients, they avoid great nutritious foods because they contain fat. Good fats actually benefit weight loss so tuck in to avocados nuts and coconut oil..

Even though the use of cocaine was stopped in Coca-Cola in 1929, the company still uses leaf extract from the coca plant. According to U.S law they are the only company to receive exemption to import this product.

Humans are killing 1,776 animals for food every second. That's 153,446,400 animals killed for food per day. In July 2015 that would equate to 0.21 of an animal for each person in the entire world.

In the 1830's Dr Mile's compound of extract tomato was used to treat indigestion, liver disease and diarrhea. Now we use it as a condiment.

An avocado has more than twice as much potassium as a banana. For a delicious, creamy salad dressing, mix together avocado and fresh carrot juice. Create avocado cream to accompany dishes like grilled salmon by mixing Cream Cheese with a ripe avocado, black pepper and lemon juice.

To optimize the juice you get from a lemon or lime, roll it hard under your palm for a minute before juicing. I use lemon in practically all my cooking, the citrus flavour goes fantastically well with fish and fresh leafy salads.

A lot of my clients come to me with aims to lower their BMI, this is my view on using BMI as a indicator of your own health: The basic advantage of the BMI measurement is that it can be utilised internationally and is essentially free to calculate, which promotes mass use. In adults it can be used as a very basic indicator of obesity and can also enable mass studies to provide international statistics that are easily comparable, which has obvious benefits to science. However,... for the purposes of analysing a client I would never use BMI as an indicator of someone's degree of obesity. The first reason being, that it can not tell the difference between an athletic muscular physique and an obese figure as it can't tell which mass the clients weight is in. also, It does not take body shape into account, which means women with large chests are negatively mislead by the statistics. If you are concerned about your weight it is advantageous to see a professional in order to get an accurate idea of your health.
