" This was our second stay at the MangoPlaya Studio, the first was in February 2017. We came back for the location on the hill with its spectacular view, and the easy walk to Grand Anse beach and the beautiful hospitality of Ray and Co. Some things have changed. There are new beds which are very comfortable. The little TV is gone, (The internet provides information and entertainment). They are in the middle of getting a small roof over the front of the studio, which will provide much needed shade. The bathroom has a new sink.

Some things are the same. It is peaceful and quiet. The road is far away and its noise is low, about the same as the surf from the beach. The walk down to the road through Habitation de Grande Anse is pretty and steep at the top. We thought it good exercise, but it might be difficult if you have mobility problems. It can be a social place. The guests in main gîte walk in front of the studio to enter or leave. We found ourselves getting to know them a little, usually sharing a sunset with Ti punches or other rum concoctions and good conversation.

This time we were in the studio for three weeks in February. We did not need to use the air conditioner, although we were asked to turn it on once because it is better for the machine to run occasionally. The fan was enough. We cooked small meals for which the small kitchenette was okay. There was a new pan which made beautiful omelettes.

The WiFi actually functions best out back or in the little parking area, but it is adequate inside the studio most of the time. Their garden is spectacular, it’s like being in a managed jungle, adjacent to the wild jungle! Don’t miss it, but do be careful walking down the steps and paths.

Staying in the studio, we learned to close the shutters when we left so it would be cool when we returned. Especially by mid-afternoon, the sun can get pretty hot. The advantage is quick drying time for beach towels and hand laundry! We think the addition of the roof will be a big help. The fridge in the studio is small, so be prepared to enjoy shopping often. The Spar in Deshaies and the SuperU on the way to St. Rose are two good possibilities.

We enjoyed getting to know our hosts a little better this time as well as their charming neighbor Daniel who manages the gîtes when Ray and Co need to be away. They are an interesting, well-traveled group. Although we speak French, Ray and Co speak excellent English, and Daniel can manage English also. In sum, we recommend the studio at MangoPlaya without hesitation "
