" Had a really bad experience here. I ordered my car online through Discover Car Hire, it was supposed to come with road side assistance, and some other insurance. I also paid extra money to get an automatic car. When I arrived in Athens at the airport I found that Goldcar wasn't even at the airport, I had to take a shuttle service about 10 minutes away to go to Goldcar. When I arrived the representative told me that they didn't have any automatic cars, even though I paid more money to reserve one. I was shocked to hear this. I insisted that I needed an automatic car and the representative told me she would give me an automatic car that was slightly larger than what I reserved online. Then she told me that Goldcar would place a $45 EUR hold on my card until I brought back the car with a full tank of gas, this was okay with me. But then she said Goldcar would also have to place an additional $2,000 EUR hold on my card for insurance purposes, and if I wanted to avoid them placing this hold on my card I would have to pay $170 EUR to buy the "Relax" insurance policy..... on top of this, the car they gave me wasn't even automatic. I will never rent a car from Goldcar again. Last year I rented a car with Budget and it was an incredible experience, they were honest and cheap. Please do yourself a favor and go with another company because you'll have to end up paying an additional $170 EUR for their "Relax" policy and they'll try to give you a manual car with "automatic car functionality", which means it's a manual car... "

" Price is cheap, but they aggressively try to sell you more insurance coverage as employees obviously make commission on the extra charges. I had to repeatedly refuse this coverage, and then was treated rudely - all I wanted to do at that point was get out of there as soon as possible. Also, if you don't get the extra coverage, they will "block" off €1200 or so on your credit card to cover damages; they do this almost as retribution for not choosing the extra coverage. We returned the vehicle before hours at the parking lot next door, but BEWARE! they will charge you €8 to take you to the airport. "

" Was very happy with the service, and they had the best price for car rentals in town. Thought the staff was quick and attentive, vehicle was virtually new (about 2300 miles on clock) and returning the car was quick and painless. Nice and quick shuttle service back to airport too. Would highly recommend them "

" After reading the negative reviews here I got a bit worried. But those worries were ungrounded. The location is indeed off airport but a regular shuttle service takes you to their office in about 15min. We were earlier than expected for our pick up but this didn't prove to be a problem. We even got a car upgrade as the car we ordered wasn't available. Yes, the manager tried to sell us an extra insurance, but every company I ever rented a car from has tried this, just decide for yourself if you want/need it and if you don't, just refuse it. A sum of €1300 was blocked on my CC to cover for damages. The car itself was almost brand new, with only 8.000 km. Drop off was very smooth, even though I was an hour late. As soon as they finished checking the car for damages, the shuttle bus brought us back to the airport. All in all, a good service. All the staff I met was pleasant and friendly. Maybe I just got lucky :) "
