Space Internetworking Center (SPICE) was founded in Xanthi, Greece, on September 1st 2010. Its establishment and operation was funded by the European FP-7 Capacities "Research Potential" program [264226, FP7-REGPOT-2010-1]. Scientific and Project coordinator is Vassilis Tsaoussidis, Director of Internetworked Systems Lab and Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace. SPICE advisory board comprises both scientists, such as Prof. Eytan Modiano (MIT), Nestor Peccia (ESA/ESOC) and Scott Burleigh (NASA/JPL), and one member from national and regional authorities. SPICE has already defined a cooperation framework with European Space Agency, NASA and several universities and research institutes, including MIT, University of Cambridge, University of Zurich, Tampere, and Helsinki University of Technology. Currently SPICE coordinates the earth portion (including universities and research laboratories) of CCSDS experimental SPACE DTN backbone.
