Poseidon, striking the ground with his trident, raised the most powerful and fastest horse, capable of winning all battles; Athena, hitting the rock with her spear, gave birth to the first olive tree to light up the night, to beg the wounds and to offer nourishment to the population. Poseidone, colpendo con il suo tridente il suolo, fece sorgere il cavallo più potente e rapido, in grado di vincere tutte le battaglie; Atena, colpendo la roccia con la sua lancia, fece nascere dalla terra il primo albero di olivo per illuminare la notte, per mendicare le ferite e per offrire nutrimento alla popolazione. Over the years, new sports were added to the Olympic Games. The hoplitodrome, for instance, was a footrace the athletes ran wearing full armor. The pentathlon, in which the athletes competed in five events (jumping, javelin, sprint, discus, and wrestling) was added to the Games in 708 B.C. The pancration was introduced in 648... B.C. This brutal sport had no rules and combined boxing and wrestling. In addition to the pre-existing religious shrines and altars, a vast complex of buildings and structures was constructed at Olympia to accommodate the growing number of sports and athletes. Chariot races, first run in 680 B.C. , were held in the hippodrome. Boxers and wrestlers trained in the Palaestra, which was adjacent to the gymnasium. The Leonidaion housed the athletes. Generally, only freeborn men and boys could take part in the Olympic Games (servants and slaves were allowed to participate only in the horse races). Women were forbidden, on penalty of death, even to see the Games. Nel corso degli anni, sono stati aggiunte nuove discipline ai giochi olimpici. Il hoplitodrome, per esempio, una corsa podistica che gli atleti eseguivano indossando l'armatura completa. Il pentathlon, in cui gli atleti svolgevano cinque discipline (salto, lancio del giavellotto, sprint, lancio del disco e wrestling) fu aggiunto ai Giochi nel 708 a.C. Il pancrazio introdotto nel 648 a.C. Questo sport brutale non aveva regole e mischiava la lotta al pugilato. Oltre ai santuari e agli altari religiosi pre esistenti, ad Olimpia venne costruito un vasto complesso di edifici e strutture per accogliere il crescente numero di atleti. La prima corsa dei carri fu effettuata nel 680 a.C. nell'ippodromo. Pugili e lottatori si allenarono nella Palaestra, mentre Il Leonidaion ospitava gli atleti. Ai giochi olimpici potevano prendere parte solo uomini e ragazzi nati liberi (agli schiavi era permesso partecipare solo alle corse dei cavalli). Alle donne era proibito persino assistere ai Giochi Olimpici. I vincitori dei Giochi venivano incoronati con ghirlande di foglie di ulivo e considerati degli eroi.

La fiamma approderà in Giappone il 26 marzo, a Fukushima, la città simbolo del terribile terremoto del 2011. Il viaggio della fiaccola avverrà sotto lo slogan "La speranza illumina il nostro cammino". Today is Tsiknopempti - literally, smokey Thursday - and as this week is traditionally the last meat-eating week before Lent, it has been named as the Thursday when everybody goes out on the town to eat traditionally grilled meat...tsikna is the smell associated with meat being grilled!

Tavernas around Greece are generally jam packed on this day as most people go out and celebrate the carnival in style, whether they are in masquerade or not! Happy Tsiknopempti, everyone!!! 🇬...🇷🤍💙🥩🍗 =============================================== Oggi è Tsiknopempti - ovvero, giovedì grasso - e poiché questa è l'ultima settimana in cui si mangia carne prima della Quaresima, è tradizione in questo giovedì andare fuori a mangiare carne alla griglia ... Tsikna (affumicato)è l'odore associato alla carne alla griglia!

Le taverne in tutta la Grecia sono generalmente piene, in questo giorno, poiché la maggior parte delle persone esce e celebra il carnevale con stile, sia in maschera che senza! Buon Tsiknopempti, a tutti!!! 🇬🇷🤍💙🥩🍗
