About Lensa Masyarakat Nusantara

Promoting the Power of Perspective

Tags

Description

LMN is building on the work of Photovoices International which began “empowering people through photography” in Indonesia in 2006. Project sites include:
• Coastal communities on Lembata Island,
• Forest-based communities in Timor and West Kalimantan,
• Protection of natural and cultural resources in Gunung Lumut, Central Kalimantan,
• REDD+ project activities in the peat swamps of Katingan, Central Kalimantan,
• Women’s empowerment in communities in West Java.

In all of these projects, Photovoices worked closely with community participants and program partners to document information and insight, local history, experience, and cultural perspectives critical to understanding and addressing natural resource management and community development issues within unique rural settings.
With new leadership and enthusiastic support from Indonesian program staff, Photovoices has transitioned to a new national program and more local organizational presence – Lensa Masyarakat Nusantara (LMN). LMN’s initial project sites are the coastal communities of Amed and Tulamben, Bali, where LMN is using participatory photography to incorporate community perspective into the development of a sustainable tourism and marine conservation plan in East Bali.
