" first time here, not really a good experience here. it seems like it used to be a nice place to spend your holiday, but not at this time. The bungalow looks nice at the first time, but if you pay attention to the details, many things to be improved. There are also many local who tried to sell you everything, such durian, t-shirts, petay, tattoo, etc, and being quite pushy. if you wish to spend your holiday here, make sure you bring a group of friend, at minimum 10 pax, with some good plans. " Completely derelict, this place has no business pretending to belong to the hospitality industry. It is hard to understand how the rating on Google Maps can be 3.9 (June 2017)
I imagine that this place was built about 20 years ago, probably before the Asian Currency Crisis of 1997 and IF at that time, you would have been told that all that's provided is basic shelter, then it would have been ok to go there.
But we're no longer in the '90s and Sambolo Cottages is a forlorn, unmaintained, mismanaged place that's definitely not worth the exorbitant price asked for it (I booked on Agoda and was asked for 3.2 jt Rp. for 2 nights).
The huts - cottages is a much too positive word for what they are - are sloppily built of raw sawed planks, covered with what must be a leaky thatched roof during the rainy season. Most of them are in bad disrepair, some are in ruins.
Located between two small streams, (meaning open air sewers) the water at the beach is muddy, slimy and carries much plastic garbage.
Apparently, we rented the best cottages at Gate H, meaning that two huts have been varnished and fitted with split A/C in the bedrooms.
It is difficult to understand if the place has "staff":
We first stopped at Gate C, since there were signs along the road that the "office" is there; we were told that no one knew about our booking and upon seeing the printed Agoda booking, we were sent to Gate H, as it's "a different company".
There (and granted, that was during Ramadan) we had to rouse about half a dozen scraggly half-sinister guys sleeping in one of the huts who started sweeping our hut before we could move in.
No maintenance : when we asked why half of the lights didn't work, the guys went and bought lightbulbs from one of the nearby convenience stores that litter Java.
No hygiene : the water that trickles down the shower head smells of rotten eggs and there is hardly enough water pressure anyway to shower or clean half-decently.
No food : that could be ok IF it was clear at the beginning. As it was, we only had snacks and besides the convenience store, nowhere to buy food.
No facilities (a beach hustler suggested a half day boat trip to Krakatau for 4.5 jt Rp!)
I could go on and on, but the pictures I took will speak for themselves.
The best I can say about Sambolo Cottages is: super basic. "

" Best place for family and friends vacation.

My first day here, it's not too crowded but at the second day there are many local tourist who are not guest came here. It should be forbidden but the manager didn't act.

There also need some maintenance for the house especially there are so many leak roof.

One night there's a heavy rain and the water got in to the house and flood the living area. It's very inconvenienced.

So bad :( "
