Purwodadi Botanic Garden ~ established on the 30th January, 1941, and located in Purwodadi, Pasuruan, East Java Province ~ is officially governed under Indonesian Institute of Sciences [LIPI].
As a botanic garden it is specifically designated to conserve plant species from typical habitats of low and dry areas, throughout Indonesia. To date, in all, not less than 1.858 plant species have been conserved ex situ, including those of threatened species [Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered] and species that categorized as Extinct in the Wild.
Besides its prime function in the field of research and ex situ plant conservation [relevant to Target 1, 2, 3, 8, 10, 11, 13 and 16 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation], The Botanic Garden also play strategic roles in environmental education [relevant to Target 14 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation] and ecotourism.
