" Very lousy experience.

I brought my dog in due to cluster-seizure attacks and initially I felt that everything was very clean, the staff working were professional and the vets were caring. I even didn't mind the hefty fee of $1200+ as I felt that it was late at night and the heftier fees were understandable. The next day my dog was better and he was released by Advanced Vetcare with 2 dosages of Diazepam if seizures occur again. The vet on service told me that if seizures happen again, administer 1 dose of diazepam and bring him in again if the seizures continue.

As expected, my dog had another cluster-seizure episode 10 days later and didn't stop seizing even after a dose of diazepam and I had to bring him back there as it was late at night again. Yes, we had another dose of diazepam left but we weren't told that we could administer that as well to try and stop the seizures. After another night of hospitalisation and $800+ later, he was released with a prescription for Phenobarbitone and Neuroforte tablets, and the vet on duty told us that he was a medium sized dog and we actually could have administered 3-4 doses to stop the seizures, if we knew that was a possibility we would have asked for them to give us 4 doses instead of 2, and tried to stop the problem without having the bring him down to the vet. I let that slide too as I figured that different vets might have different opinions and they may have their own reasoning for giving me the instructions they gave.

After starting on the medication, I realised my dog was very unresponsive and groggy all the time so I called the vet and asked if it was normal. The vet on duty told the receptionist that I could lower the dose and give it a try. I did not need to do that as the next day my dog seemed to be showing signs of getting used to the medication and there wasn't a need to risk seizures anymore.

I am travelling overseas in less than a week, and the initially prescribed set of medicine wasn't going to last till I came back. (I planned this trip way before my dog had seizures) My parents are willing to help with the medication as well as other aspects of taking care of my dog, therefore I decided to call Advanced Vetcare to ask if I could come down and get maybe a week or two's worth of medication first before doing anything. The receptionist on duty said that the vet insisted that I had to bring my dog down for a full blood analysis etc and tests to ensure its safe to give the same dose. I wasn't going to do that because I don't want to risk my dog having another seizure when I am not in Singapore, so I would prefer to carry on with the current dosage since things are good and nothing has been going on.

I understand the need for them to warrant a blood test, as I was planning to bring my dog for one when I got back to ensure everything is alright before altering the dose of medication. What felt fishy to me was how they could just recommend a lowered dose without even speaking to me, but when I want to refill his prescription I have to go for a complete blood test as well as a consultation. But then again i'm not a vet, neither am I medically trained so I am in no position to comment.

What really ticked me off was when I told them that I need the medication because his current prescription is running out, and I want to go to another clinic for a test, they changed their minds and said they weren't going to release any medication at all.

I may be wrong, but I felt that they were doing whatever they could to pressure me into coming back here to get medication and go for the tests etc. Also, after speaking to my groomer who had a very bad experience with Advanced Vetcare, I've decided that I will not be coming back to this clinic anymore.

If you find this review too long, I can sum it up in a sentence.

While the staff were professional, the place was clean and the vet appeared to be caring, they constantly gave me the vibe that they cared more about how much business they can get out of me rather than treating my pet.

Not recommended to anyone at all. "

" Brought our dog in the middle of the night because she wasn't acting normal since her day at the beach. Turns out she injested some sand. Doctor was extremely patient in explaining the procedures to us. Suggested that we do an invasive procedure to remove the sand. She even worked out budgetary quotations for us.

We decided against the procedure and brought our dog home. She's recovering well since. Turns out it wasn't as serious as all of us thought. Though we didn't heed the doctor's advice for the invasive procedure, we really appreciate her explanation for all the possible risks.

Slightly pricey, but so is any other clinic if you go during after-hours.

Nonetheless, definitely a good clinic. "

" Very passionate and helpful team of doctors and nurses working around the clock to ensure all animals get the care they need. Gave their fullest attention and effort to even the smallest of pets (like my pet bird). The only thing that can be improved is the payment system, but overall it was a great experience at this clinic. "

" I wanted to say thanks to Dr. Nick Woo for taking care of Paul (my dog). Dr. Woo is a rarity, as he really took his time explain things very carefully to me. It turned out Paul was only scratching due to mild allergies, but the meds really seemed to do the trick. I don't live that close but I can say I've now found my new favorite vet. Highly recommend!
