" Sri Ayyanar Temple @ Jalan Kenanga 3/27, Kampung Tujuh, is one of ten temples, built by the Chetty People, surrounding the historical Chetti Village.

Ayyanar (also spelt Aiyyanar, Ayanar or Iyenar) is a Hindu village God of Tamil Nadu. He is primarily worshiped as a guardian deity who protects villages from external threats. The guardian comes from Shiva. His vehicles are horses and elephants. He protects the land in this area. The temple used to be the only one in Melaka honoring him.

I was told the temple (which the locals also call Kuil Gajah or Iyenar Kovil) was built 100+ years ago by the early Indian settlers of Malacca, some time between the 15th and 16th centuries, who later came to be known as the Malacca Chettis.

The annual Temple celebration is on 1st Friday of the Tamil month Adi Massam. I was there for the Aadi Pooja so many of my pictures is from this event.

There are a number of other Chitti temples in the area. Google maps would be very helpful in locating the place. "
