" I dont really support zoo. This zoo is small but quite well mentained and have good collection of animal. The animal living here looked well fed and some have offspring. But they look lazy and bored. The zoo have lots of trees so the air is good here and shady in most areas. Cleanliness, presentation and cage size should be improved. "

" This place is not as horrible as people said. There're lot of science and good things here if you really paying attention. But i admit this zoo is very small. And i think some big monkeys and big cats here don't deserve such small cages. Some arrangement should be made here, big cats and big monkeys need bigger space. Maybe demolish the water park for them? I really hope somehow they'll make it happen.
And yeah, there're lot of zoo that's worse than this in Indonesia. But Siantar Zoo is better than others. Despite its small area, the surrounding neighborhood, and located in small city in Sumatera they are doing well here.
Keep up the good works! "

" I was extremely unimpressed with my visit to this zoo. I wish I never went.

There are so many large animals at this zoo, and their enclosures are FAR too small.

The tigers were imprisoned in cages around only four or five times their size - that's barely enough room for a tiger to walk, let alone run. The Siberian tiger was pacing back and forth in its cage, just to prove how depressed this animal must have felt.

A bunch of children stood around in amazement at the lion who began to roar, and didn't stop until we left. I don't know much about lion behaviour, but I feel as if that isn't something happy lions commonly do.

The icon of Sumatra - the endangered Sumatran tiger was crammed into one of these small cages as well. None of these animals deserve such cruel treatment, but I was especially surprised by this one. How is this harsh treatment allowed, especially towards endangered animals?

This zoo needs to seriously change their practices - it's better to have a few animals that are treated well than hundreds that will live the rest of their life in a prison. There is a large area within the zoo dedicated to a children's playground that I didn't even see one child use while I was there - why not expand the enclosures into this area?

After spending weeks in the jungle of Sumatra (and seeing how those especially in Bukit Lawang seem to care so much for the well being of their animals) I was disappointed to see such different treatment within the city. This cruel treatment was not the view I had of Sumatra previously - please, for the sake of these animals, expand their enclosures, don't overcrowd them, and give them a better quality of life!! "
