Throughout Indonesia it is the norm when owning a small family business is to name it after the cook. In the Indonesian culture, traditionally the women do the cooking.
Therefore, the majority of small restaurants (warung) are named after the mother of the family.
For example; Nasi Pecel "Bu Sri", Nasi Pecel "Bu Titin",
Nasi Pecel "Ibu Ri". (Ibu/bu meaning Mother/Mrs)
This tradition of business names is rather dated, so we chose to go down a different route, and to use our main inspiration and passion within the company name; the Hippy movement!!
The Hippy Movement or any knowledge of 1960's culture is rarely known in Indonesia.
Not many people have ever heard of the word 'Hippy', and even less understand its meaning
.
We thought that this unknown part of history would be perfect for our business.
Not only would we be moving away from the old-fashioned company names, but we will incorporate a word which makes people think, and want to learn more about.
For the younger generation of Indonesia, we feel it is an opportunity for them to gain a wider range of cultural knowledge and hear music from that historic time, the 1960s.
