" Had a deep cut with box cutter knife during art, was promised to be helped within 4 hours. Drunken junkies were apparently more urgent.

After 2 hours I had help, great right being helped so early? Not.

I had "temporary" paper stitches and they said I needed real stitches and said it would be done in 4 hours. I sat there on a Wednesday for 11 hours.

We GAVE UP and left the hospital (1 in the morning) after that because I was so upset and couldn't stand sleeping on the benches. Didn't have proper dinner because my mom was required to stay and supervise me while we had nobody else to order us something.

I was tired and hungry, I even cried because of all that happened (I usually never cry in front of people). I returned the next day just after the nightshift to dayshifts at eight. The best time of day, apparently.

They told me that if I had stayed I would have been called 06.30 in the morning.

Whether I stayed or not (which I did not), it is clear that either way I wouldn't have been able to attend school or not because if at 6.30 in the morning I would go home to sleep before getting ready I would have only had 30 minutes of sleep. (This means that if I had stayed I would have been there roughly for 16/17 hours)

Anyways, so I went home and went back to Mater A&E the next day, arrving at ten. I had my sleep, proper breakfast...

Couldn't do anything about missing school and had accepted that so all should be fine right? Wrong again.

To make matters even worse the Triage misdiagnosed the depth of the cut and when I got called at 14.00 they told me the paper stitches were all I needed. I could have left at 16.30/17.00 the day before and attended school the next day if they had noticed it wasn't all that bad.

You would think they know what they are doing with the BASIC stuff. I wouldn't want to trust my life with them if I go to A&E at Mater again for an emergency if they mess up something that simple. "

" If you have an emergency, avoid this place.

Went here with my friend after doctor told her she needs to go to the ER.

We arrived at 9pm and at 4:30am we had yet not been seen. Even though it was an emergency.

We were not alone in this. Patients had been waiting for over 12 hours and yet not seen.

What was interesting was that convicts and junkies skipped the queue and got tested immediately.

Long story short, if you feel like you're going to die, you most likely will at this excuse of a hospital. "

" Went in there and wished I never had. Had symptoms important enough to be treated urgently, including heart palpitations. Was sat there for 6+hours, seeing all sorts of drunks being treated 'urgently' when they were simply drunk/junkies. One even went so far as to steal hand sanitizer while being helped. I must have seen at least 6 clear junkies being treated, while some of us were sitting there in pain. The whole experience became even more mind boggling when one of the junkies set the fire alarm off by smoking in the loo. I honestly have never experienced such a spectacle. Needless to say, after 6 hours I asked how much longer I would have to wait and was told 'best case scenario 2hours due to others having more serious illnesses'; i asked if heart palpitations and a potential pancreatitis was not serious enough to be seen after 6 hours, and was told 'nothing we can do'. I left afterwards and will have to pay the 100 euro charge. An absolute disgrace that a country in Europe has this as an emergency room. Clearly not the fault of the people there, but I'm never ever going to this place. "

" 15 HOUR A&E WAIT. AVOID! Do not go to this place for A&E. Arrived at 8pm on a Thursday evening, had blood pressure and temperature checked within 30 mins, had blood taken at 4am the next morning and did not see a doctor until after 11am. Staff were polite and were clearly doing their best but the place is disgustingly understaffed. Being charged €100 to wait in pain for hours and hours is a disgrace. "

" Went there for A&E and it took me 8.5 hours. During my waiting time I wanted to hand-in some tests as requested. However, the triage did not open the door anymore. When I knocked again, she opened the blinds, looked at me and closed them again - very respectful. The doctor was kind yet skipped some mandatory checks for my symptomes which is why I had to go to the GP the next day again - cannot recommend. "

" Do not go to this "hospital". I have not been seen, only by a nurse who just checked my blood pressure and send me back to the waiting area. Waited for hours and heard that I would take up to midnight before somebody could help me. I left after 8 hours waiting. I got the bill of 100 euro and needed to pay, when asking for explanation why nobody could help me for 100 euro's a very rude lady only said you have to pay! That was it. A shame for this city! Again, go to a better and nicer place where the doctors, nurses and receptionist people care about you and you questions. "

" Saved my life, saved my foot another time, saved my two brothers lives. Cant do better than that. A& E is full all of the time of people who should not be there. The system is understaffed and badly run but the front line staff are great. No all of them obviously but most of them. People who moan are usually the people that should be at the GP not blocking up A&E. New A&E is great so much better than the old one. "
