" A lot of unusual tasty food, kosher and not, and open on Shabbat, saved us a few times. But even basic products are sooooooo expensive... Unbelievable. "

" Tiv Ta'am is a large, upscale chain of Israeli supermarkets that carries a huge variety of kosher and non-kosher items, many of which are imported. To my knowledge it's the only supermarket in Rehovot open on Friday afternoons and Saturdays. It is relatively compact, compared to Shufersal Deals or other warehouse-like supermarkets, but extremely well-stocked, clean, and attractively lit. Prices are generally higher than at other supermarkets, but there are always many specials (1+1 or discounts) available if you purchase a frequent shopper card, and if you shop these bargains it's actually quite reasonable. The membership card also gives you a 5% discount if you spend NIS 500 or more in one trip, so it quickly pays for itself if you shop in bulk - e.g., for a family. The store has an excellent wine and liquor selection (Israeli and imported), an attractive collection of housewares, an extensive deli, an in-house bakery, and extensive selections of gluten-free, organic, Asian, Eastern European, and other specialty items. Customer service is limited and largely indifferent (as in most Israeli supermarkets), although I found a very nice lady at the deli counter and a very friendly and helpful English-speaking butcher.
