Description

Desom Kattilekkavu is an old temple consisting of two temples. Desom is the southern portion of Chengamanadu Village in Aluva Taluk of Ernakulam District. Kattilekkavu is situated in West Desom ie. about 100 meters far from Kunnumpuram Junction. In the front side of Devi Temple Subrahmania temple exists.

It is considered that these two temples were destructed during the period of Tippu Sulthan when he came here with his soldiers. During that time the soldiers of Tippu Sulthan distructed the Cheriyath Mahavishnu Temple also which exists on the northern side of Desom. It is presumed that Kattilekkavu temple is the last temple undergone destruction by Tippu Sulthan in Kerala. From here he could not go to the southern side since heavy sudden flood blocked the journey of soldiers who were camping in Aluva Manappuram.

Nobody knows the exact period of construction of Kattilekkavu temple. It is considered that most of the temples in Kerala were established either by Parasurama or by Villwamangalam Swamiyar. But the construction of this temple is not seen related to them as per the old books or legends. There were no one to undertake the worships and other things related to this temple for long time. During these periods the neighbourers were lighting the lamps in this temple.

Recently a very expensive renovation has been carried out in the temple and the devotees are well satisfied and well proud of it. The whole hearted support of the devotees both physically and financially creates the temple more prosperous. May the almighty Karthiayani Devi and Subrahmania Swami spreads all the goodness to the devotees.
