It began with the vision of Mr. Prashant Shah that every artist deserves a platform to showcase their art and since the art galleries limit this space, he sought the virtual / online space for this art domain. Mr. Prashant Shah is the Managing Director of Painternet (India) Pvt. Ltd, Vice President of the Bombay Art Society and an artist himself from the prestigious Sir J. J. School of Art,
This first ever online art gallery was launched in 1999 by the 2 doyens of the art world that came together for the first time - The cartoonist known for his deep rooted sarcasm, Late Shri Balasaheb Thackeray and the contemporary and very talented artist and Padma Bhushan awardee, Late M. F. Hussain.
Currently Painternet.com is all geared up to showcase its 3 –decade collection of Master artists at the Jehangir Art Gallery from the 19th – 25th March 2014. This is also accompanied by the evocative work of Mr. Prashant Shah that brings alive the ancient and sacred tradition of Jain Heritage. Since over a decade, Painternet has genuinely supported and exhibited works of established artists such as V. B. Biradar, Yashwant Shirwadkar, G. S. Mazgaonkar to name a few. It has also supported a six day art camp for 30 eminent artists where-in Vaasudeo Kamath, Anil Naik, Ravindra Salve have displayed their magic on canvas.
The aim and objective of the gallery is to bring the essence of art into the lives and homes of those unaware with its varied colors and languages. It is an initiative to identify with the range of artists we have across different genres, the work and their humble stories. Painternet.com intends to design a creative interaction between artists, collectors, enthusiasts, critics and investors and create an ambience that connects art to many hearts!
