" Main Bus Stand Abohar The most messy place.

History of Abohar: Abohar is an ancient city - dates back to the period of 12th century. In 12th century the City Of Aboharwas founded by 'Abheraj Bhatti' and named it as 'Abhegarh' (Abu city). Later, it became as Abohar. Centuries ago, after the rule of King Aabu Chandni - Raja Hari Chand ruled this region. During his rule, the king fell ill and became a victim of leprosy. The doctors of the king adviced that, the king could recover only if he was rubbed with the blood of the horses of Panj (five) Peers of Multan. The daughter of King Hari Chand was very brave. She went to the Panj Peers and grabbed 81 horses along with their goods. But the king succumbed by the illness by the time the princess reached the kingdom with the horse. Many requests were sent by the Panj Peers to the princess, to get back their horses but she refused to give those horses.

Finally the Panj Peers came to this region from Multan to take their horses back. They camped on a small hill region. Several days passed, but the daughter of king refused to give their horses back. The women of Panj Peers came to this region in search of their husbands. By seeing them, Peers became very angry and cursed them, by which the women were buried under the earth. It is believed that, the Panj Peer got very angry for not returning their horses back and destroyed this region with their divine powers.

During the independence of India in 1947, Abohar city was marred with bloodshed due to the Hindu-Muslim riots. Post independence, Abohar became the Tehsil of Fazilka District In Punjab.

Swami Keshwanand Ji (1883-1972)- He was a great social reformer, born in the village of Magloona, Sikar District - Rajasthan. Many educational institutions were established by him. Swami Keshwanand Memorial College, located in Abohar was founded by him. "
