Our non-profit organization is registered with Companies Office of Jamaica. We are dedicated to developing readers of all ages to a higher level of proficiency.
Our overarching missions are:
1. to eradicate illiteracy among children and adolescents at risk for reading failures in Jamaica;
2. empower socially disadvantaged people to participate more effectively in national socioeconomic development processes through Literacy;
3. fulfil the constitutional right of all citizens to gain access to basic education through Literacy;
4. foster social transformation through civic and public awareness through Literacy;
5. provide simple, low-resource strategies for Jamaica and other developing countries outside Jamaica;
6. support teachers in responding to students need through context base text;
7. ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning (Goal 4, United Nations);
8. ensure that all girls and boys complete free, equitable and quality primary and secondary education leading to relevant and effective learning outcomes through Literacy (Goal 4, United Nations);
9. ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university through Literacy (Goal 4, United Nation);
10. ensure that all youth and a substantial proportion of adults, both men and women, achieve literacy (Goal 4, United Nations);
11. eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all levels of education and vocational training for the vulnerable, including persons with disabilities, indigenous people and children in vulnerable situations;
We also embrace a mission that is grounded in cognitive neuroscience, learning styles, reading research and the cultural, linguistic, social and developmental needs of diverse learners. The Jamaica Intensive Reading Clinic helps students to use theoretical and practical reading strategies to learn and master the art of Reading. We closely support the vision of UNESCO, UNICEF and the Ministry of Education. Each learner is taught by a Reading Specialist or a trained Volunteer using relevant context based books. We offer intensive reading programmes and ongoing intervention projects that will help children to develop their reading skills.

She spoke on the importance of energizing young minds and the need to facilitate intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in the classroom. Participants will also get credit for this training session.

"Let us Talk Literacy"
A child’s sensitivity to print is a major first step toward reading. Young children can begin to understand that print is everywhere in the world around them, and that reading and writing are ways for them to get ideas, information, and knowledge. Children quickly settle into book-sharing routines with primary caregivers. Toddlers start recognizing favourite books by their cover, pretend to read books, and understand that books are handled in certain wa...ys. As they reach their fourth and fifth years, children increasingly come to understand that it is the print that is read in stories and that this print contains alphabet letters that are a special category of visual items, different even from numbers. They begin to recognize that print in English has a number of features, such as starting at the top of the page (top to bottom) and on the left side of the page (left to right). They recognize print in their home, neighbourhood, and other local environments.
