" If you like hot springs, Isaribi in Echizen is where you must go. The open-air bath (rotenburo) looks out over the Japan Sea. It's a little hot during the day (the light is blinding) but in the winter when it's snowing out there's nothing like it. Of course, the best time to come is at dusk when the fishing boats that give this onsen its name (漁火 means "jack-lighting") are out on the horizon.
There is a large lounge for relaxing, and the cafeteria on the first floor sells excellent seafood for very reasonable prices. A great place to bring a family.
There's also a swimming pool. The fish market across the street sells fresh fish for astonishingly low prices. "
