About Life Investigation Agency - NGO
LIA is an independent campaigning organization that investigates, exposes, inspires, and campaigns against the illegal trade of wildlife, environmental destruction, and animal abuse. Although we are a modest organization, we have been waging international campaigns, saving animals, and exposing environmental crisis for the past 10 years. Most recently, LIA is documenting the daily hunts, captures, and massacres of dolphins in the town of Taiji, in Wakayama prefecture. The hunts were the object of the documentary The Cove. Under Covid-19, international NGOs are not able to come to Japan. LIA Founder and activist Ren Rabuki is solely doing all the documenting from Taiji during the six month hunting window. This year LIA made the headlines for its coverage of the capture of a Minke whale by fishing nets. Unfortunately, Taiji decided to slaughter the whale but the incident brought international exposure, even receiving critics from UK prime minister Boris Johnson and the Australian government.
