Description

Our endeavour is based on a single initiative- that of bringing to fruition the Swahili Dreams project in Lamu. We are creating a luxurious yet eco-friendly building with a complementary fusion of modern design and traditional Swahili themes.

Our chosen collaborators in this enterprise share in our vision of creating homes for sustainable lifestyles, even as we deeply honour the rich legacy of bygone eras.

Swahili Dreams is an exclusive planned development in the heart of Lamu’s Old Town. You have the choice of buying from the plan one of only 9 individually architect-designed apartments. This is a once-only opportunity to invest in a luxurious property in Lamu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Swahili Dreams is all about living with history- blending ancient Swahili design with contemporary comforts; culture and modernity; craft and design; bridging the past with the present and the future.

The entire Swahili Dreams team was on site in Lamu this past weekend. You should have seen our beaming smiles and glowing faces! This dream is now a reality, and what a reality;the building looks STUNNING! I will let the images do the talking. The very first -- and VERY PROUD buyer -- moved in over the weekend. The whole team, including Bilal our contractor (Continental Homes), Ali Mandhry (the Quantity Surveyor), Quresh (the Lamu plaster work and intricate designs), Hussein ...(the elaborate woodwork), and Urko (our most excellent architect) toured the building over a couple of days, and you could not wipe the smile of their faces! Smiles of satisfaction and a humble pride in having created something truly unique and iconic on this island so beloved to so many. Our sincere and heartfelt SHUKRAN (thank you) to all of them! They have all worked very, very hard and with true dedication to create this magnificent building of ART. Yes, more an artistic masterpiece, and less a building.

We now have a Practical Completion certificate issued by our architect, which means the building is essentially finished. The swimming pool and floor plastering and some other smaller items remain to be done but other than that, we are almost there! The building stands out in Lamu, in an unobtrusive way, but it's certainly a landmark. From inside, the apartments and the detailed wood and Lamu plaster designs and finishing are truly exceptional! Our congratulations to Hussein and Qureishi, the local skilled artisans who have worked diligently and with great pride on the woodwork, molding designs (intricate and refined!) and the Lamu-style specialised plastering. They have brought great beauty and elegance to the buidling with their own creativity with little to no input from us.

We welcome all of you to come and have a look at the building if you happen to be in Lamu at any stage, just to admire the amazing and truly refined artwork of the Lamu-style finishing internally. In our view, it’s begun to look like a work of fine art, what with the care and love that is put into it by the artisans of Lamu!

Look at some of the uploaded images from the site and we are sure you will appreciate our sentiments!

We are so excited to be on the final stretch towards project completion! In another couple of months, the building should be ready in its entirety. We have started installing the intricately carved wooden doors, windows and balconies and are busy working on completing the kitchens. While these are being finished, we have placed the order for kitchen appliances such as refrigerators, stove tops, microwaves and other sundry electrical items. The kitchen counter tops are all being done in reinforced hardwood; they look amazing! Work has also begun on the finishing of the exterior of the building. Have a look at some of the attached images.

It’s been a busy few weeks on the project. The structure is up, swimming pool concrete casting is now complete and we have been working on Lamu plaster work and timber work for the last couple of months. The project from the inside and outside looks amazing! Urko, our architect and his team together with the local artisans and the main contractor have been working very hard at ensuring that all details are attended to. The fine Lamu designs on the internal plaster work done by Qureish, Lamu’s premier skilled artisan in this area is doing an amazing job! Here are some images………
