" We have just finished an amazing 3 week rental with 4x4 Kenya and I strongly recommend them. We rented a Land Rover Defender and drive all over the country visiting various national parks. We saw elephants in Amboseli, Rhinos in Nakuru and Lions in Mara. None of it would be possible without our Defender. There are a LOT of people online and in Kenya who say you need a guide and can't self-drive here or there. We NEVER had a single problem, went wherever we want, saw every animal we hoped to and had a fantastic experience.
The only issue we had with the truck the entire time was that one of the two batteries wouldn't hold a charge. I WhatsApp'd George from 4x4 Kenya and he drove out to the AirBnB we we're staying at and swapped in a new battery right there in our garage. Amazing service.
To clear the air from some of the other reviews, yes, George requires that you pay cash up front for the rental, but he provides a detailed contract and takes a damage deposit on your credit card.
He was very clear about that with us and communications through WhatsApp were fast and detailed. He arranged to come meet us with the vehicle at the airport the night we flew in to Nairobi.
Overall, I'm convinced this is the best way to see this beautiful country. My kids learned so much and the entire three week rental of the Land Rover cost less than what a 4 day Safari with a guide and car would have been.
