Description

THE NAMING:
Olchani – A Maasai word meaning “A Tree.”

Why Maasai? Well, after going through a series of non-inspiring names, we settled for Olchani not only because it sounds nice and unique but also because it is a true reflection of what we are trying to achieve with this home – a “green sanctuary” surrounded by trees. The Maasai have long used various trees for medicinal purposes and this practice is still very widespread today. In this regard, the word for medicine in Maasai is also Olchani.

True to the essence of the name, we hope that you will find this “green sanctuary” relaxing (almost medically calming) and comfortable.

THE COUNTRY HOME:
The land where this home sits has been in the family for close to four decades. As the place is very dear to us, we thought we should give it a facelift by building a more permanent home. It seemed like a farfetched dream at first but today after breaking ground in April 2012 we are humbled to welcome you to this special place that we call home.

Cucu (our grandmother) was a jolly old lady and always had one guest or another in her home in addition to her many relatives. Olchani Country Home - Nakuru celebrates her by warmly welcoming guests as often as we can. Please feel free to enjoy the home as you would your own. Fill it with warmth, laughter and fond memories – Cucu will love that!

FACILITIES AT A GLANCE:
• 3 bedrooms and one DSQ attached to the main house
• Fully furnished
• Self – catering (a cook can be made available on request, advance notice required)
• TV and DVD player plus various DVDs including interesting documentaries
• Lovely landscaped gardens
• A tree and herbs nursery
• A dairy pen (housing Daisy the cow and Henny the calf)
• Hot water on demand (instant showers)
• A barbeque grill
• Assorted toys and indoor games e.g. scrabble and cards

We have tried our best to maintain the facilities to International hotel standards but keen to maintain the homely touch.
