" To hear the story the king built a fort on this rock, but hell to climb . In top of the Rock nothing special , nothing is there . Take few shots and return safely "

" Sigiriya or Sinhagiri is an ancient rock fortress located in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla in the Central Province, Sri Lanka. The name refers to a site of historical and archaeological significance that is dominated by a massive column of rock nearly 200 metres high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Culavamsa, this site was selected by King Kasyapa for his new capital. He built his palace on the top of this rock and decorated its sides with colourful frescoes. On a small plateau about halfway up the side of this rock he built a gateway in the form of an enormous lion. The name of this place is derived from this structure —Sīhāgiri, the Lion Rock. The capital and the royal palace was abandoned after the king's death. It was used as a Buddhist monastery until the 14th century.[1] "

" Sigiriya is the place where one of the kings of sri lanka had his palace long ago. His palace was on top of a rock which takes some effort and nerves to get there. When I went there my driver warned me to be beware of the guides that are a bit pushy. He also said that if you see the museum first there would be no need for a guide. He was right in both instances. The museum gives a good idea about what you will see. The signboards at each place is clear and makes everything understandable. I find the climb up the rock exciting and well worth the effort. I surely recommend a visit to this place "

" Amazing place. I recommend staying in the hotels near by. Evenings are really calm, dense forest full of wild animals adds to the drama. Hiking to the top is not very tough. View is stunning. "
