The St.Benedict's College Scrabble team was placed 3rd in the B Division All Island Inter school Scrabble tournament which was conducted by the Sri Lanka Scrabble league. Master Dinelka Nanayakkara, Ashene Wijeisnghe, Varaharajah Amirthavarman, Aqeel Muthaliff, and Varatharajah Vaseekaran were the students who represented our Alma mater in this tournament.

Size Doesn't Matter

The first Scrabble tip that is vital to winning is that the size of your word doesn't matter. A word that is 3 letters can be worth much more than a 6 letter word. Only 7 letter words matter, and that's only if you use all your tiles. With that in mind, don't waste good letters like "S" just to make a word bigger. "S" can come in handy, and that one extra point isn't worth losing such a great letter.

Avoid giving other players easy access to bonus point squares, especially the triple word scores.

Consider balance as you look at the letters on your rack. For example, it might be smart to form a word eliminating double letters in your rack even if it's not the highest-scoring move you have available. Many players aim for a rack with four consonants and three vowels.

Plan ahead to play long words, possibly even using all the tiles on your rack in one turn (which is known as a bingo and which earns you bonus points). The most common letters players save to create a bingo are A, E, I, N, R and S.

Today, the scrabble players of St.Benedict's College took part in the all island "B" division Scrabble tournament and was placed 7th out 15 schools. Congratulations boys!!!

Last Saturday Master Vaseekaran Varatharajah competed in the School Scrabbler of the year tournament for the first time and won 2 matches out of 6. Congratulations and keep up the good work
