Problem statement

In the identified area of Nawimana, Devinuara and Thalalla GN Divisions it has been noticed that the communities have a number of families with no proper housing due to abject poverty.

This situation calls for help to provide support for families that are not with decent kind of shelter above their head. There are about 100 families who need help on this aspect. This problem has affected the education of the children in the said families too.

Overall Objective

1. To provide shelter to needy shanty dwellers by 25% in the identified villages.


Proposed activities under the objective 1

1.1 Obtain statistics related to families living in dilapidated or poor housing.
1.2 Discussions with the families concerned
1.3 Gathering information to ascertain their capacities, and requirements, participation in relation to provide free labour.
1.4 Complete 17 housing units


The BOQ attached herewith has been submitted by a State Institute, the Housing Authority. According to the BOQ cost of one housing unit is Rs.1,508,321.10 x 17 units = Rs.25,641,458.70.

The respective housing units are supposed to be built in the land allotments belonging to 17 selected beneficiaries (List of beneficiaries is attached herewith for information ).

The skilled labour like masons carpenters, plumbers, electricians and the like will be assigned at the rate of one team per one unit so that all the units will be completed concurrently.

Supervision of the construction will be observed by the Housing Authority, a state body that has expertise on the subject. The charges for supervision have been added already to the cost of the construction.

It is suggested to set apart 2.5% of the total cost of the that is Rs.641,036.00 as contribution/ supervision charges to the implementing agency the Humanitarian Development Fund

Sustainability

Question of sustainability does not arise as this is a housing project. Maintenance of the houses built will be the responsibility of the beneficiaries after handing over by the HDF the implementation agency that is submitting the proposal

Environmental aspect.

The proposed project will not have any negative impact on the environs of the area. Every housing unit will be constructed on the land allotments belonging to the respective recipients who living in a residential area. Additional housing unit built on the land or as a replacement for the existing dwelling will not pose an environmental threat.
