" Yudaganawa Temple is located close to Buttala on the Wellawaya– Buttala Road. This is one of the largest Stupas in the country and dates back to 2 nd century BC. This is thought to be place price Tissa and his brother price Gamini (Later The great king Dutugemunu) had a major battle after the death of his father King Kavanthissa (2 nd century BC)
This colossal stupa with a circumference of 317 meters (1038 feet) was initially thought to be a Kota Vehera. A large stupa built half way and a smaller stupa built on top of that. "

" This is the place the King Dutugamunu and Sadhathissa had the war during B C 161 century. King Dutugamunu, during his 1st war in the North, along his journey from Magama to North this is is the first place where he lodged with his army squad. King Mahanaga established the Magama Kingdom and constructed the Chulangani Vihara complex. According to the constructions, i.e. dagaba, bodhi vihara , rest rooms and the hermitages of the Bhikkuhs, it appears that this Chulangani complex could be compared to a pancha vihara. This is one of the biggest chithyas in Sri Lanka, the perimeter of this Chithya is 1038 feet. This Dagaba is still being maintained. An inscription done by the King Keerthi Shri Nissanka is situated and still kept under protection. In the 18th century, the Vihara closer to this Dagaba is being constructed by King Shri Wickrama Rajasinghe Paintings, sculpture, Budha statues belong to Kandy era could be seen here. The Historical Yudagana Wewa was constructed by King Mahanaga in B C 2/3 centuries. It fulfills the concept of “Wewai Dagabai Gamai Pansalai”. Historical palaces, waterways, sculptures, carvings and many other constituents which has historic values could be seen at this sacred place of Yudagana Viharaya. "
