This was a project by the RMI Ports Authority dubbed "the Environmental Mitigation Revetment (EMR)" to mitigate potential erosion of the beach and land next to the previous dredge site located lagoonside of the airport water reservoir. The EMR included the first ever coral remediation work in Majuro (back in 2016). This was a joint effort by the RMIPA and RMIEPA.

PII, general contractor, came up with the 'Coral Reef Planters' - concrete igloo type structures for the coral to... be transplanted onto, they also have holes in them for fish habitat. The RMI EPA engaged The (Majuro) Clam Farm to collect coral from the dredge area before dredging, storing the coral in the lagoon waters beside the ARFF (Airport Fire Station) facility and then gluing finger sized fragments (or 'frags') of coral on to the Coral Reef Planters.

While not all the fragments survived it has greatly sped up the coral regrowth in just a span of 3 years. Also the Coral Reef Planters are there for coral spores to naturally settle and grow on. In 15 years the coral will probably cover the whole concrete "Coral Reef Planters" structures.
