Description

“Human creativity is the ultimate economic resource.” Richard Florida

Namibia’s first Creative Industry Guide.
Joe Vision Production and Turipamwe Design are compiling the very first annual Namibian Creative Industry Guide in partnership with the Directorate of Arts. The guide will be published as a bespoke hardcover publication and eventually made available online in the form of an official website.

The creative industry refers to a range of economic activities, which are concerned with the generation or exploitation of knowledge and information. The creative industries have been seen to become increasingly important to economic well-being, proponents suggesting that “human creativity is the ultimate economic resource,” (Richard Florida 2002) and that “the industries of the twenty-first century will depend increasingly on the generation of knowledge through creativity and innovation” (Landry & Bianchini 1995).

“The cultural and creative industries are major drivers of the economies of developed as well as developing countries. Indeed, they are among the most rapidly growing sectors worldwide. It influences income generation, job creation and export earnings. It can forge a better future for many countries around the globe”. (Ernst & Young 2016)

Our main aims & objectives of the Namibian Creative Industry Guide:
1. To highlight the importance of the creative industries in relation to Namibia’s NDP5 Goals and Vision 2030.

2. To provide insight on how the different creative sectors contribute to socio and economic development in Namibia.

3. To create a consolidated reference with which to access information about creative industries in Namibia, including much needed information on:

* Key contributors within the creative industries, including institutions, associations, bodies, and organizations.

* Information about where to trade and showcase creative products.

* Information about funding and training institutions for prospective and existing contributors in the creative industries.

There are nice creative industry sectors, namely:
1. Advertising & Marketing
2. Architecture
3. Crafts and Culture
4. Design: product, graphic & fashion design
5. Film, TV, video, radio & photography
6. IT, software & computer services
7. Publishing
8. Museums, galleries & libraries
9. Music, Performing & Visual Arts

Each sector will have one contextualized introduction, provided by an industry professional, outlining how this particular sector contributes to the development of the sector as a whole and to the greater Namibian economy. Thereafter the creative industry participants; institutions, umbrella organizations, businesses and individuals will be listed.

Distribution and marketing:
The Creative Industry Guide will be available at governmental offices, foreign missions, Namibian missions abroad, local and international creative businesses, and creative industry organizations.

The Creative Industry Guide will be made available for trade and tourism fairs in Namibia and abroad, and for international conferences held in Namibia. The Creative Industry Guide is to become an annual publication that will go in tandem with online availability.

We are convinced that this first edition of the Creative Industry Guide will go a long way towards showcasing the availability and importance of the creative industries in Namibia. We trust that you are as excited about the creative prospects of this project as we are.
