Nationaal Muziekkwartier
About Nationaal Muziekkwartier
'Nationaal Muziekkwartier' is a partnership between 6 cultural organizations in Enschede, the Netherlands. The organizations that work together are Stadsschouwburg en Muziekcentrum Enschede, Atak, Nationale Reisopera, Orkest van het Oosten, De Muziekschool Twente en ArtEZ Conservatorium. Two organizations are responsible for cultural programming (Stadsschouwburg en Muziekcentrum Enschede and pop stage Atak), two for the development and performance of artistic productions (orchestral work from Orkest van het Oosten en opera from Nationale Reisopera) and two organizations are responsible for cultural education; De Muziekschool Twente is a school that teaches music and dance and ArtEZ is a conservatory. ‘Nationaal Muziekkwartier' stands for cultural education, music and theatre for everybody. Professional musicians, actors and other artists perform for the public every week at one of our three locations: Stadsschouwburg (theatre), Muziekcentrum (concert hall) and Grote Kerk (an old church with a stage on the city's main square). In the Stadsschouwburg the public can enjoy opera, pop music, plays, modern dance, comedy and more in the big Holland Casino Theatre (1.001 chairs) and the smaller Grolsch concert hall with a pop stage (160 chairs). The Muziekcentrum contains a concert hall that is famous for its acoustic quality (De Wilmersberg Zaal, 1.054 chairs) and another small stage for chamber music (Arke Zaal, 200 chairs). The Grote Kerk (‘Great Church') is a very special place in the centre of Enschede. In the church, with room for 400 people, the public can enjoy the sound of the ‘Lambertus van Dam' organ and other performances. In 2011 a new cultural location of Nationaal Muziekkwartier will be opened. This location (Fabrieksschool), with room for 300 people, will have a stage that's ideal for youth theatre.
